How should you choose a dance studio?
Choosing a dance school for your child is as important as choosing other education endeavors for your child. We strongly recommend that parents visit different studios to become accustomed to what is available for your child. Every dance studio is different, and parents should choose a school where they feel comfortable about what is taught and who is teaching their child. The dance facilities are also another aspect to consider. Our facilities have marley covered sprung floors to help dancers prevent injury when jumping. Ballet barres are necessary for every technical ballet class. Mirrors are needed for the students to see themselves and help make corrections given by the teacher. Musical systems should offer tools to the instructors such as the ability to slow down or speed up music.
Why choose Fusion Dance for your child's dance education?
Most students join a dance studio for fun and exercise. At Fusion Dance, we provide a recreational program for students in a fun and exciting, but also disciplined atmosphere. Our faculty is dedicated to providing the best dance education possible for both our recreational dancers and more serious dancers. Proper technique, body alignment, stretching and strengthening are highly concentrated allowing students to advance to a higher level. Proper technique also teaches students the correct posture, grace, poise and overall body carriage they will carry into their adult life. As dancers evolve into adults, they have less back problems due to the strengthening and overall way they carry themselves. We also strive to instill a love for dance and music in each child. If your child takes a more serious interest in dance over the years, he or she will have a great foundation needed to proceed to a higher level. If a student has never had proper technique, no matter how many years of dance training they have studied, it is very difficult to advance beyond the beginner level.
Our teachers take a personal interest in each child. We make every effort to know each child and their personalities. Not every child learns in the same way or time. Therefore, our staff can help each child by knowing how to teach that student in a way they will understand what is being taught. Our office staff is not only there for performing office tasks, but to also greet each child and parent with helpful answers to all your questions.
We encourage students to work as a team. This approach to dance helps students learn to work well with others. We do offer opportunities for individual lessons, but this is always secondary to teamwork.
When does Fusion Dance accept new enrollments into the studio?
Fusion Dance runs their yearly program from September through June, with the Annual Performance in June. We accept new students up until the end of December. By January, the costumes for the Annual Performance have been ordered and the choreography for each class has begun making it difficult to accept new students into those classes. Our adult program is always accepting new students at anytime throughout the season.
Is it mandatory for students to perform in the Annual Performance?
The Annual Performance is optional for students; however, the performance is a typical part of dance education. It is important for students to be able to show their accomplishments to their family and friends. It also builds their self-esteem and confidence.
What extra fees should I know about besides tuition?
Students must adhere to the dress code, including proper shoes, for all classes. Students also purchase a Annual Performance costume for each style of dance they study (unless the student is taking combination classes, where some costumes are used for two dances). The cost of costumes include a pair of tights (if needed), so students do not need to purchase extra tights for the Spring Performance. The only other fees are recital tickets, practice CDs (optional), performance make-up, professional photographs in costume (optional) and recital DVD (optional.)
Why does Fusion Dance require a dress code?
Since dance is an art form where students are working with their bodies, teachers need to be able to see the dancer's form in order to make corrections. A dancer with a huge tee shirt or baggy sweat pants is hidden from the teacher. If a student is using his/her body in the wrong way, the teacher might never be able to see it under loose clothing. Also, dancewear is made to help keep a dancer's muscles warm, preventing injury. Hip-Hop class is more lenient because of the style of dance. Having a ballet class (or a competition class) wear all of the same color helps the teacher notice when bodylines are different from dancer to dancer. In competition classes a dress code also keeps the students working as a team.
How do I register for classes at Fusion Dance?
Call or email the studio to set up a time to visit the facility and meet with the staff. You will receive registration materials and information about Fusion Dance as well as take a tour of the studio. Complete the registration forms and begin to enjoy the art of dance!
If my child does not want to continue taking class, do I receive a refund on tuition or costumes?
If your child does not want to continue taking class, it is best to let them finish out the month and then drop the class or try another style. Once costumes are ordered, we can not cancel an order. Costume companies make the costumes to order. We also discourage students from dropping a class once costume orders are placed. This will have an impact on the entire class and the choreography the teacher has planned. At Fusion Dance, we feel it is important to teach students that quitting in the middle of something involving other peers is not fair. Students should at least finish out the year. Most students will know by December if they like the class and want to continue. Fusion Dance can not give refunds on tuition or costumes.
